Well, in tribute to that great game called NFL football here is a place where Scott and I hang it all on the line and bet on those meaningful statistics of the year. The process of betting on all of the statistics that we can find is a tough one which usually involves needing some beer to make the wager, and of course some one-upmanship. The talleying of points is as follows. You get 1 beer if you are more correct than the other halfbrainer. You also can get a beer if you guessed the right person (i.e. a beer for pulling that one out of nowhere.)

Last year (2000) was a doozy with me pulling it out in the end and actually managing to win the beer bets. This year, we realized that we were missing some categories, so have updated the number of bets, and now have approximately 78 bets in our beer wager. To look at the current week go here for a look at how we are doing. All the weeks are archived, for postarity.

2001 Season

Week #1
In a bold and daring start to the season We got together in Portland and worked on getting all of our bets in order (over several beers) then proceeded to play GT3 late into the night. Needless to say we cursed the fact that we live on the West Coast and pregame shows start at 8 am. We did awaken to the pregame and tried to help our hangovers with some liquid. Then a little blueberry french toast got the day in order. We had a full day of football and it felt good to get back into the swing of things. The biggest problem was with the Seahawks playing an early game, our usual afternoon nap was thwarted by actual good football on the TV.

Week two was cancelled due to the WTC and Pentagon disasters. Our thoughts are with the families.

Week #2
Well week #2, which formerly was known as week 3, was a doozy. Scott came up early and we watched his brother in a play, The Bacchi, and then went to the Rheinlander, a local German resturant. Now normally on weekend get togethers we eat quite well, but I think that the Rheinlander pushed us over the edge, from which we could never recover. I don't think that the stomach ever recovered. For the start of football day the patriotism and flags were a very nice thing to see at all of the games. Poor Scott almost had heart failure from the Dolphins/Raiders Game, but as his team emerged victorious he was happy (I wouldn't say screaming like a little girl, but he was jumping around quite a bit). Unfortunately our teams on Sports Action didn't do as well. Our meals included Sour Dough Waffels, Orange Julius's, and Southwest Chicken wraps for the start of the Cardinals season. It was also good to see that things were back in order with an afternoon Sea Hawks game. We both needed a good nap. =)

Week #3
Well week #3, was an amazing weekend. Scott had to host this week and managed to pull off an amazing job considering the fact that OSU (Oregon State) got blown out and his dolphins experienced the same problem. Needless to say to take care of our sorrows were beer and cheese to the rescue. Only problem was that we actually managed to finish it all off. Who knew that we could be such pigs. Saturday after the OSU loss, scott greeted me with a beer at the door. A very nice start to a recovery period of dealing with the losses. The next day started out with omlets and hashbrowns. Then scott killed me with the usual bean dip, a milkshake and then finally phili cheese steaks in tribute to the Eagles game on Sunday. By the time that I left on Sunday I was thinking that Emmit might stand a chance of recapturing 3rd place in the all time rusher list. I personally am still fasting to try and drop weight for next weekend.

Week #4
Where to begin for week number 4. Well this was a big week, for Scott not only almost won Sports Action, except for the damn Packers, but he pulled ahead in the beer competition. I think that my script to generate them must be broken, so I am going to work on it and see how things clean up for next week. Saturday Scott and I enjoyed a wonderful holiday brew called Ebeneezer Ale from Bridgeport (a Portland Microbrewery). While this is quite a delightful ale, it has the added benifit of a 6.4% kick. This made watching the Simpsons much more delightful. After a night of corrousing at the bars until 2am, we knew the morning was going to be painful. 8am was way too early but at least the German Pancakes helped. Also we got rid of the stack of bottles I had collected ($20) over the previous year or so of drinking. For the morning game we watched the Saints and Vikings, while swearing and cheering the "live" update of the NFL scores page. We watche the Fins roll over the Pats and the Steelers win the home opener at Heinz field. Glad to know that our teams had won for the week, we then experienced true joy by heading over to Damons, where you have the choice of 4 TVs. So we didn't have to suffer through the Seahawks game (even though they looked good with Trent Dilfer). After a huge plate of onion rings and beer, we were set for the day. Definitely a low food weekend, but a good time was still had by all.

Week #5
Well this week started off much better than the previous weeks, due to a victory of the OSU Beavers. The only problem was that with a night game, it severly infringed on our drinking time and reduced the alcohol consumption. But fear not, for Scott came to the rescue with his high octane beers, and a shot of good Russian Vodka. We spent much of the night watching the Simpsons DVD set from season one. Good stuff and highly recommended (even when Scott flips the soundtrack to French.) Sunday was amazing. We finally have the system down with the NFL.com live scoring to track our teams as we watch the games on the TV. Only problem this week was that as scott watched the Dolphins stats he started to swear due to their collapse in the second half. This outburst was noticed by the downstairs neighbor who had to ask us to keep it down and quit waking up her daughter. She probably thought that we were going to sleep through the Napternoon game of the Seahawks v Denver. Boy was she wrong. So on the food front, Scott filled everyone up with Cinnamon Raisin bread, and a wonderful egg cheese baked thingy. Then Taquitos and in honor of the troubled Janokowski Polish dogs for dinner. Then if that wasn't enough he topped crepes with Nutella spread and ice cream. I know that personally I managed to reach 219 pounds on Monday. Definitely going to have to improve my weight if I am going to win that bet. Scripts must still be broken for scott is up 31-38. Damn him.

Week #6
Hmm, where to start about this week. First of all Scott and I made the trek over the Cascades to Bend to a nice little resort we call Club Med, but is also know as his parents house. The accomidations include a 53 inch TV, horse Barn (complete with 2 horses, Rebel and Candy), an ATV, a Hot Tub, wonderful home cooking, and of course Direct TV with the NFL Sunday Ticket. Needless to say this was a good weekend. The only problem that I encountered, was that Scott tried to aid his weight gain bet by telling Mom that I was close to 220 lbs and that all I needed was a little help to bump me over the hump. Bless her soul she tried hard, and his dad chipped in by continually filling my plate at breakfast with pancakes. This hard earned effort netted in +2 lbs for me, but since I saw this coming, I was able to have lost enough weight during the week, that I was sitting at 218.75 on Monday morning. I brought over my PS2, and I think that Scott's Parents enjoyed it, although the streets of Rome are never going to be the same. As for the weekend, we basically did everything that was available at Club Med, although the hours spent in the hot tub made me very relaxed but looking like a wrinkled prune. Sunday we enjoyed the Pittsburgh v Tampa game (plus a lot of flipping of channels), and then mainly watched the Green Bay Viking game. Also there is a sign of hope, for the scores started to turn around for me, with the score now at 34-38, and that is without me even having to fix the script. =)

Week #7
Well a Happy Halloween to all of you out there. This weekend was crazy. I think that it definitely falls into the category of trying to do too much in too little time. Friday was a Dance at OSU, then a football game in the pouring rain, followed by a drive, a halloween party, then finally a day cleaning and sleeping on the couch. Talk about exhausting. I will post the pictures from the party when I have time, but about 20 people came over and tried to drink me out of beer (but failed). We stayed up late into the night since the government was so kind in letting us have one extra hour (and the neighbors didn't even mind). Several really good costumes this year. So in an amazing weekend, the unblieveable happened. Seattle didn't appear on the afternoon game. Luckily Scott made the trip north with his brother otherwise he would be swearing about the Seahawks NOT being on the TV. If that isn't weird I don't know what is, besides the fact I am losing 31-40. Ahh, but there is always next week.

Week #8
So this was the first weekend of the football season Scott and I didn't get together. So since we were not in the same venue, that wonderful brain of ours has to keep things in check with the good balancing out the bad. After reading my weekend you can imagine very little bad happened to scott this weekend. I had a wedding to go to. Now the wedding isn't the entirely bad part. The bad part was that I got food poisoning while I was up there, so not only did I get way too comfortable with a hotel toilet, but then I couldn't enjoy the great food and drink at the wedding reception. So no free wine or food, made me quite an unhappy camper. Then to top things off (if that wasn't a miserable enough weekend), the Beavers lose their game in Overtime because their field goal kicker couldn't hit a thing during regulation. Well it appears that was contageous since Pittsburg on Sunday had the same syndrome so the two kickers combined for a whopping 3-9. The two bright spots of the weekend was that 1, I won my fantasy football game, and 2 I lost like 4 lbs so I am looking good on that bet. With my weekend I'll just let you assume how Scotts went. This week is mid week, so as soon as I get Scott's comments you will have a full posting of how we feel about our bets. (Basically a lot of trash talking...)

Week #9
Another exciting week in the NFL and a new step towards perfecting the football weekend. This weekend involved some amazing things including the Beavers Blowing out the Fuskies . . Huck them. Was fun to watch the Beavers prove that they were able to play at the level they did last year. Now it is just hoping that they can keep that intensity for the Ducks. Scott managed to fanagle a ticket so he even got to see the game live. Although he mentioned something about being near the Washington Cheerleaders so I don't know how much of the game he actually watched. Saturday night we had smoked chili Dawgs in honor of the game, and then watched Star Wars I, and Monty Python's Holy Grail. And of course the usual beers were consumed. I unfortunatly grabbed a Heinikin out of the fridge, and am still trying to get the taste out of my mouth. Bleh. So sunday we did things right with a projector for the computer stats to be displayed on the wall next to the TV. Watched the play by play victories of the Steelers and Phins, while Chicago didn't manage to pull a 3rd straight miracle against Green Bay. Enjoyed afternoon games and I didn't even fall asleep on the drive home listening to the SeaChickens. As for food, scott put some weight back on me by serving French Toast, Bean Dip, Italian Meatball sandwiches, and Waffle Sundae's. Soo good I would do it again. Well the score is now 38-43. Doesn't see like I am getting any closer. Hope that changes soon.

Week #10
Well as the luck was with Scotty a few weekends ago, it was definitely on my side this week. I got to head off to a great concert, The Family Values Tour, which had nothing to do with Jerry Fallwell and Family Values, unless mosh pits are a new family value. Then managed to sit though a Football game in November and didn't get rained on (and the Beavers won to boot). Then just a generally relaxing weekend as the Steelers posted another win, my Fantasy team chalked up its 5th win in a row, and I even found time to spend with both sets of my parents. Only bad news was that my PS2 was not wanting me to play SSX, I guess it is addicted to GT3 as well. Food was a little light this weekend, since it wasn't a get together and needing to help fast before Turkey Day. But some good pizza and chinese takeout still managed to find its way into my stomach. Since I had a good weekend scott obviously wasn't as lucky, seeing that his Phins forgot to play on Sunday. But since he did a good deed this weekend, helped out at a Church Camp, he is hoping for a mighty rebound this weekend. Some of the stats are a little messed up, since it looks like the report doesn't have Monday's game in so Randy Moss is still sitting at 3 TD's. Scott has widened his lead out to 34-44. I am hoping that my players can turn things around quickly.

Week #11
So this was a long weekend due to the Thanksgiving holidays, in which we are thankful for all of our blessings, our family, and of course football and food. I enjoyed a nice meal with my parents over at my aunts house while Scott made a trip over the mountains to Club Med (parents house). Heard he had a 21 lb turkey, which seems to me means he is trying to singlehandedly carry the weight gain category. I spent my weekend watching a lot of football except for Friday where I got out of the house for some wine tasting. Ended up with too much wine, so now am going to have to find time to fit that into my schedule as well. Football was topsy turvy this week. I mean all the college upsets, Detroit almost coming back to get their first win, the Rams losing again, and a great weekend for Scott and Dale due to our teams winning and our Fantasy prospects doing equally as well. Getting excited for this weekend, for it is Civil War here in Oregon (Oregon State vs the U of O). Planning on sitting inside and enjoying the game with friends and a few of my favorite beers. So this week the Score is now 33-46. I am slipping away. I guess I just cannot keep up with Scotts offense. I am definitely going to have to look at those scripts.

Week #12
Well it was the mighty Civil War here in Oregon, where the U of O and OSU play for bragging rights of the state. Luckily this year I didn't have tickets, because anyone who actually lives in Oregon can tell you the thought of playing football in December is rediculious. So by the warmth of the fire for the outside, and brews for the inside we gathered to watch the game. Actually it was about 18 people that gathered at my house. I was going to do something impromptu, but when that many people show up you feel the need to provide food, and we had a spread which was a good warmup for the SuperBowl in about two months. The Beavers really looked good but made one too many mistakes and the Ducks won the game. As my mom said, the Beaver beat the Ducks but the Ducks won the game. Bummer. Sunday was good, for I actually got to watch the Steelers (even though the almost blew the game), and scott got to yell at the play by play on the computer until Miami sealed their victory. Since there was Football two days, the Menu expanded this week to include Saturday. Needless to say both Scott and my scales were impressed by our weekend eating. Weekend food included, Chili Cheese Dip, 7 layer bean dip, Pizza, Egg Nog French Toast, and last but not least the famed Super Bowl Sandwich. I offered Egg Nog to scott for Dessert but he claimed he was full. I personally didn't believe him, but I figured I wasn't a good buddy if I got him liquored up for his drive back south. So I guess I have to finish it all off. =) Oh, the score stablized at 33-46, so I am hoping that I have stopped the trend of Scott gaining a lead and I mount a vicious 4th quarter comback (much like the Dolphins have managed lately).

Week #13
So it was a weekend away again. I was off galavanting and drinking in lovely Las Vegas, while Scott took a trip over the mountains to participate in Bend's Christmas Parade. The one nice thing was that both of us were able to watch plenty of football on Sunday because we had the Satellite available for our viewing enjoyment. I was down in Vegas for the NFR, although now it is the WNFR, since Wrangler has sponsered the national finals of rodeo. I do have to say a few things about vegas, it is a fun town and boy there are plenty of drinks, which fits in quite nicely with my current lifestyle. Saw an amazing country western singer Lisa Hewitt at the Barbary Coast, and actually was the second time that I have seen her. So this year I managed to pick up a 60oz margarita glass, and am thinking of making it my beer glass. That way the fact that I am losing 31-49 won't be so bad, since 31 of my glasses of beer will both take away any worries that I lost, and get me more beer than Scott.

Week #14
So this week I tested what would happen to the halfbrain body if you didn't expose it to a lot of football. Making sure that I didn't go into complete shock, I watched the first half of Giant Arizona game, although one could debate if that was really football. I picked up my brother from the airport and we headed over to Eastern Oregon. Even though we are in the sticks, my Dad has a nice huge 60" screen so the PS2 was amazing. Actually spend most of the weekend outside, which was a novel concept. I did manage to survive the weekend, without football, but had to check the scores quite a bit. Fantasy football was good to me and so were the Steelers. So you would think that with all of this activity and not sitting around being a Spud would help me on the weight bet. No such luck. Turns out that when exposed to the cold, my body decide to start storing the winter fat, and I peaked up to 219.5 this morning. Urg, there goes another bet. Guess there still is a month to go, but of course I don't really hold my breat for the fact that I am going to be able to put a big dent in that weight. At least I made up some ground on Scott this week in the beer talley. So now I am only losing by 15 with a score of 32-47.

Week #15
Well once again very little football but a lot of family time. It was good to see everybody. Hung out with my brother and finished the Tour-de-Oregon over at the coast. The weather was actually nice and I have pictures to prove it as well. =) Got some cool stuff for Xmas. Including SSX Tricky, so I can see a lot of my time is going to be "wasted" on that. The score took a turn for the better 32-46. That at least is progress in the right direction.

Week #16
Finally a weekend to watch football. Although I was screaming at the Steelers giving up their lead and for Marshall Faulk destroying me during Fantasy Football. So my 11 game win streak was killed quite quickly by Faulk. So no Championship game for me next week. So really a bad week. Heard that Scott got to replace his radiator (not by his choice) so I don't think that things were not riding on all wheels for the halfbrainers. Must be the upcoming weeks of football ahead. So looking forward to the first get together of the year. Hope you all had a happy new year. I got friendly with my buddy Jack Daniels for the New Year, so I was toasty when toasting in the new year. The score got better (do I smell a come back?) 34-46. At least it isn't a blow out.

Week #17
Well it is with sweet sorrow that I announce the end of the regular season. Now one would probably ask why it is sweet sorrow. Well it is sad since there isn't anymore regular season football. It is sweet because we now have the playoffs. It was reassuring to both Scott and I during this final weekend that our teams didn't lay down completely before the playoffs and they managed to beat both of their respective teams. This week also signaled the first get together in way too long. The new Xmas toys were played with and much beer was consumed. Heck we even through in Sour Dough waffles, sausage, bean dip, philicheese steaks, tater tots, and home made ice cream to celebrate. Was good to get back into the swing of things. The next two weeks are going to be sweet with 4 games on. I love playoffs. With the end of the regular season upon us, the majority of the scoring has finished, and it appears that Scott held on to his lead, with me only managing to close the gap by 1 point. Damn I thought that I would catch up more than that. Although there was one good sign. The total number of beers went up. The score as it stands is 38-49. I think that Scott stands to win more during the playoffs than me, since his teams actually made the playoffs, while my pick the Flambing Tumbtacks didn't even decide to show up this year.
